Institute of Farm Animal Genetics (ING)

Collaborations

The scientists of this Institute are engaged in teaching at institutes of higher education including the Veterinary University of Hannover, Leibnitz University of Hannover, the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Göttingen, and the Hannover Medical School, among others. Current research commonly involves integration into regional and international consortia. Most prominent is participation in the German Research Foundation (DFG) supported Excellence Cluster "REBIRTH" based at the Hannover Medical School. The Institute also participates with leading German research groups in two DFG supported transregional research consortia and in two research networks supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Examples of international projects include the European Union (EU) supported research networks, GlobalDiv and EFABISnet, in which specific aspects of the characterization and maintenance of the genetic resources of agriculturally important domesticated animals are studied and results are collected into an advanced European databank; and Xenome, in which the potential of xenotransplantation is studied through the production and evaluation of multi-transgenic pigs. Within the framework of masters and doctoral research programs, research students from a number of different countries are currently working at the Institute. Experienced scientists participating in specific research projects visit the Institute on a regular basis.
