The personnel exchange project between the FLI in Germany and the INRAE in France focuses on tuberculous granuloma in cattle. An in vitro granuloma model has been developed at the FLI. This model is being investigated further using Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium bovis, both of which are of great importance to human and animal health. The robustness of the model will be evaluated using field strains of M. bovis, alongside microbiological and molecular biological investigations. The French and German teams will complement each other's work in investigating different immune populations associated with granuloma formation and the survival of mycobacteria within granulomas.
