Near the German-Polish border at Bleyen, African swine fever virus (ASFV) has been detected in a young boar. The animal who appeared to be healthy had been killed by a hunter who then noticed and reported changes in the organs typical of ASF-infection.

The new case is about 60 kilometres from the previously affected districts in Brandenburg and is not directly linked to these districts according to the information available. According to the preliminary assessment of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, it is likely to be a new introduction of ASF from the affected regions in Western Poland. Thus there are two outbreaks in Brandenburg and the competent authorities are taking the appropriate measures (buffer zone, sensitive area, core area).

To date, a total of 38 ASF cases  have been detected in wild boar in Brandenburg.
