Greifswald - Insel Riems, 13 Februar 2017. In the frame of his Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania tour Federal President Joachim Gauck will visit the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) on the Isle of Riems together with Ms. Daniela Schadt, State Premier of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Erwin Sellering, and State Secretary Dr. Hermann Onko Aeikens from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture on 21 February. Amongst others he will talk to employees of the Institute on the subjects fowl plague (“bird flu”) and future research work on Ebola in the FLI high security laboratory. A further item on his agenda will be a visit of the new educational laboratory, where the research work on biting midges as vectors for the transmission of pathogens and on rabies as a worldwide occurring infectious disease which needs to be combated, will be presented.
