European Partnership Animal Health & Welfare: Sustainability aspects of animal welfare promoting livestock systems

Animal friendly and sustainable husbandry

Duration: 01.01.2024 – 30.06.2027

Funding: This work was co-funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Project 101136346 EUPAHW. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Research Executive Agency. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.

About the project: Measures for improving animal welfare can have positive or negative effects on environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Possible effects are widely discussed, but very little data is available. This project examines the effects of measures for improving animal welfare on environmental, economic, and social sustainability. This is done theoretically in literature reviews and practically in case studies.

Role of FLI: Coordination of work package T1.2

Objective of work package T1.2: Compile facts from the literature on conflicts and synergies between measures for improving animal welfare and environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Reviews are being prepared for cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, and fish on farms, during transport, fishing and slaughter.
