Every farm animal has innate needs and requirements. In addition to, for example, nutrition or the ambient temperature, these innate needs include the possibility to perform proper species-specific behaviour. Frequently, the animals' needs are in conflict with agricultural husbandry conditions, environmental protection or other factors.
The Institute for Animal Welfare and Husbandry aims to investigate potential solutions for these problems in order to optimize and increase animal welfare in the various forms of husbandry of farm animals.
