TSIS

Animal Diseases Information System

With the animal diseases information system (TSIS), the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute makes up-to-date information on notifiable animal diseases online available to the public. The system allows for an interactive search on animal disease outbreaks in Germany. In addition to the animal health situation on district level, TSIS provides information on all infectious animal diseases in Germany and the respective control measures.

Animal diseases are infections of animals that are subject to national control programmes due to their economic importance or their risks for livestock or human health. In Germany, control measures are implemented by the federal states (Länder). The competent veterinary authorities must notify the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture about all animal disease outbreaks that occur in their area of responsibility. The notification is done via electronic data transmission by the use of the software "TSN", i.e. TierSeuchenNachrichten System (animal disease information system), to which only authorities have access.

The notifications comprise individual outbreak reports submitted immediately after discovery, further notifications on the outbreaks and its control as well as notifications on the suspension of officially ordered restrictions.

These notifications constitute the data basis in the Animal Disease Information System (TSIS) and reflect the current animal health situation in Germany.  Furthermore, TSIS contains information on previous animal disease outbreaks as well as on individual epidemics and the functioning of national control measures. Thus, TSIS provides all those generally interested in animal health with quick and easy access to up-to-date information on the animal health situation in Germany.
