Institute of International Animal Health/One Health (IITG)

Laboratory Training

For a variety of reasons, most countries in the world have limited resources compared to Germany or Europe. Rapid pathogen diagnostics is often difficult to realise in these countries, but would be necessary in order to meet the requirement of ‘fighting animal diseases where they arise’. The aim is therefore to develop sustainable support for reliable diagnostics and surveillance and to offer this in the long term. This includes the provision of modern diagnostic equipment, knowledge transfer, international and national cooperation, cross-sectoral and/or interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge (medical, veterinary, wildlife biology and anthropological perspectives). Furthermore, cost-effective diagnostic methods and strategies will be developed and tested, which will also be applied. Guest scientists are given project-related opportunities to work in the laboratory and learn new methods in order to subsequently transfer their knowledge to their home countries.
