Joint statement on the consumption of pork from ASF restricted zones

Short Messages

The FLI and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) have issued a statement on the possible health risks of fresh meat and meat products from pigs kept in African swine fever (ASF) restricted zones and intended for human consumption.

As the ASF virus is not transmissible to humans due to its high host specificity, no human health risks are expected. Contact with pigs from ASF restricted areas and consumption of meat or meat products from such animals is also not expected to pose a health risk, even if the ASF virus is present.
