To improve precautions against HPAI in Europe, EFSA has outsourced several activities to create early warning systems, increase knowledge on circulating avian influenza viruses and fill research gaps. With this call for projects, EFSA aims to test the added value of an active surveillance component in wild birds in 9 selected geographical areas (for Germany Bodensee) in combination with already existing surveillance activities carried out by different stakeholders across Europe. Pipelines for the rapid detection and identification of avian influenza viruses are envisaged so that surveillance results are available within the EU in near real time.
