Model for the function of NXF1 in the replication cycle of filoviruses
The cellular protein NXF1 is recruited to inclusion bodies where the transcription of new viral mRNAs takes place. NXF1 interacts with the viral nucleoprotein NP that is bound the nascent viral mRNA, and displaces it from this mRNA. mRNA decorated with NXF1 can then leave the inclusion body to be translated into proteins in the cytoplasm.
