Institute of Animal Welfare and Animal Husbandry (ITT)

Interactive calculation and information system on animal welfare, environmental impact and economy of sustainable animal husbandry - focus on animal welfare

AG Legehennen AG Schweine

Akronym: InKalkTier-FLI

Project duration: 01.12.2021-31.12.2023

In the project, an interactive calculation and information system on animal welfare, environment and economy of sustainable livestock farming systems is being developed. It describes the sustainable husbandry methods and evaluates them in terms of animal welfare and environmental impact as well as economically and with regard to labour management. For the different livestock species (i.e. cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys), the existing different directions of commercial use are taken into account (e.g. broiler chickens and laying hens) and considered in the evaluation. For an adequate assessment basis of the three main factors environment, economy and animal welfare, a broad and technically sound data / information basis is necessary. The factor animal welfare, with the dimensions of animal behaviour and animal health, is comprehensively processed and analysed by the FLI, together with the project partner using the data from scientific literature research, digital expert surveys and from other existing KTBL applications. The information obtained in this way will be evaluated interactively with the project's internal committees and represent basis for the implementation of calculations for the logical data model of the planned knowledge platform.
