Research objective: The Project “Development of future oriented concepts for agricultural construction with wood - from planning to dismantling” pursues the objective of increasing the proportion of wood in agricultural construction in the future, considering technical issues.

Methods: The hygienic evaluation of wood as a building material is examined by microbiological investigations of common construction timbers. Disinfection measures of animal disease control are tested with regard to exemplary viral animal disease pathogens or their surrogates in the laboratories of the respective required safety level at the FLI.

Result: A planning guideline will be developed "Agricultural building with wood in the 21st century" is to include current issues - climate protection, animal welfare, regional value creation, durability, resource efficiency and economic viability as cross-sectional fields.
