Institute of International Animal Health/One Health (IITG)

Working group Transboundary Animal Disease Management

The working group, headed by Dr Anja Globig, accompanies and promotes the development and implementation of conceptual and innovative animal disease control measures at international level. The focus of the working group is on the control of notifiable animal diseases, especially the "TAD diseases" (Transboundary Animal Diseases) and in particular avian diseases (avian influenza - Dr. A. Globig) and swine diseases (African swine fever - Dr. Klaus Depner).

We follow an interdisciplinary approach using laboratory diagnostic and epidemiological methods to develop surveillance programmes, control measures, biosecurity concepts and risk analyses. On-site presence to conduct outbreak investigations is essential. The conceptual approach also includes advice on the legal framework, the inclusion of relevant socio-economic factors and support for international networking, especially with neighbouring countries. Furthermore, we support the development of laboratory diagnostics & research in the Global South.
