Working group Transboundary Animal Disease Management
The working group is divided into three areas [swine diseases (Dr. K. R. Depner), avian diseases (Dr. A. Globig), diseases of ruminants (E. Tuppurainen, PhD)] and supports and promotes the development and implementation of conceptual and innovative animal disease control measures on an international level. The focus is on notifiable diseases (TADs: Transboundary Animal Diseases). We follow an interdisciplinary approach using laboratory diagnostic and epidemiological methods to develop surveillance programs, control measures, biosecurity concepts and risk analyzes. On-site presence to conduct outbreak investigations is essential. The conceptual approach also includes advice on the legal framework, the inclusion of relevant socio-economic factors and support for international networking, particularly with neighbouring countries.
