Infections with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of subtype H5N1 continue to occur almost worldwide in both wild birds and poultry.
In Germany, the risk of further spread in wild birds is considered high, in particular due to the migration of wild birds to their breeding areas within Germany.
This is indicated by the continuing high infection rates in gulls and ducks in particular. And this also includes a high risk of infection for colony-breeding shorebirds returning from their wintering grounds.
