Switzerland gives the all-clear: no EHDV in cattle, measures lifted

Short Messages

According to the Federal Office of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine of Switzerland (BLV), the reference laboratory of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) could not confirm the cases tested in Switzerland in early October. With this negative result, Switzerland is once again officially free of epizootic haemorrhagic disease virus (EHDV). As a result, the previous measures can be lifted.

Despite this welcome news, the EHDV situation on the Iberian Peninsula and in France must continue to be monitored. Disease symptoms in cattle such as fever, lameness and respiratory problems, which are also seen in Bluetongue disease, should be diagnosed as possible EHDV infection.
